The Hackademy Awards is a youth-friendly advocacy event designed to educate youth and young adults about the impact of tobacco use and smoking in movies. Held annually in late February/early March, our Thumbs Up! Thumbs Down! youth volunteers arrive in a limo, walk the red carpet, smile for paparazzi, sign autographs and give Thumbs Up! and Thumbs Down! Awards to movies, actors and actresses. Thumbs Up! Awards are given to those that did not use tobacco or portrayed the realistic harmful health effects of using tobacco, and Thumbs Down! Awards are given to those that most glamorized tobacco. The funds generated from this event support our tobacco-prevention, clean air and lung health programs.
Each year in May during Clean Air Month, we recognize individuals, businesses, agencies and organizations that go above and beyond to help improve our region’s air quality at the Clean Air Awards Luncheon. Nominations are gathered from the public and the award recipients are chosen by a “Blue Ribbon Panel” of community leaders.
The Emigrant Trails Bike Trek is our biggest fundraiser! Each September (the weekend after Labor Day) we hit the road for three days of cycling and two nights of camping to raise money to support our local programs, which help make our region a healthier place to live and breathe. Riders receive full on-road support, catered meals, in-camp entertainment and more! Bikers travel at their own pace on the route of their choice (multiple routes are designed for all skill levels) through stunning scenery with stops at themed rest stops along your way to stay refreshed. In camp participants can relax with a massage, snacks or a refreshing beverage from the cantina. There is a registration fee and minimum donation requirement to ride.
