More than 1,000 kids start smoking every day because of what they see in movies. The Hackademy Awards is a youth advocacy event designed to counter the glamorization of tobacco in movies. Youth presenters arrive in a limousine and walk the red carpet before the award ceremony, where Thumbs Up! and Thumbs Down! awards are given out to actors, actresses and movies that have been reviewed by our youth volunteers throughout the year. This event brings the issue of tobacco glamorization in film to the public’s attention and educates them about its devastating effects.

Although the Sacramento Region remains high on the list of the most polluted metropolitan areas in the nation, many businesses, individuals, agencies and organizations are committed to making the Sacramento Region a better place to live and breathe. Join us in recognizing and thanking those who are working to improve the region’s air quality at the Clean Air Awards Luncheon.
